Moorpark Junior School Science Intent

At Moorpark Junior School, we recognise the importance of Science in every aspect of life and the way it connects us all. As one of the core subjects taught, we give the teaching and learning of Science the prominence it requires. We want our children to be able to develop questions about the world around them and the skills they need to investigate these.
Our aim is for science to be practical and child-led, developing skills associated with Science as a process of enquiry. Science knowledge is taught through science enquiry wherever possible to give the learning a purpose. We ensure that the Working Scientifically skills are built-on and developed throughout children’s time at the school so that they can apply their knowledge of science when using equipment, conducting experiments, building arguments and explaining concepts confidently and continue to ask questions and be curious about their surroundings. Children are provided with opportunities to use key scientific vocabulary which is revisited throughout a topic. Most importantly, we want to develop a love of a science within every child and to inspire them when thinking about their future careers.
