Art

Art and Design Intent

As a school, we believe that art is an essential part of the curriculum. It enables children to develop their individual creativity and express their ideas. Within art lessons, children learn units of skills such as: drawing, painting and mixed-media, sculpture and 3D and craft and design. Through these skills, the children will also learn the four strands of the national curriculum: generating ideas, using sketchbooks, making skills, including formal elements 9line, shape, tone, texture, pattern, colour), knowledge of artists, evaluating and analysing.

Learning is enhanced through many topic links such as history, geography and science. Children learn how art and design both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation.

At Moorpark our broad and balanced curriculum will engage children, enabling them reach to their full potential. Children are given opportunities to develop skills and express their interests, thoughts and ideas. We want to inspire and challenge pupils ensuring they have the knowledge and skills to experiment and create their own piece of art. We want every child to develop their confidence and to have a sense of achievement.
